Why The Grammy Awards Aren't My Thing

I love film awards, especially Academy Awards...but now the Grammy Awards (on tonight)...they are a beast...there's too many categories...and so when all is said and done, the only thing interesting about the award itself is that it's interesting to see the Lauryn Hill, the Nora Jones, or the Kanye West who walk away at the end of the show with a handful of awards.

Some of my favorite categories of the 108 superfluous awards...

Category 55 - Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Gospel Album
not to be confused with...
Category 56 - Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album
or...
Category 57 - Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album and...
Category 58 - Best Gospel Choir Or Chorus Album

Or how about these catagories?
Category 93 - Best Surround Sound Album
Category 97 - Best Orchestral Performance
Category 103 - Best Small Ensemble Performance (with or without Conductor)
Category 74 - Best Polka Album
Category 76 - Best Spoken Word Album For Children
Category 78 - Best Comedy Album
Category 44 - Best New Age Album

and last (but not least) 2 personal favorite, catagories 87 & 88...
Category 87 - Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package
Category 88 - Best Album Notes

You can explore the ridiculous list here on your own. Enjoy!

Am I the only one who views it as insulting that all modern Christian music (excluding "contemporary") is lumped into "Rock Gospel"?

good observation...i was also struck by the sheer number of lifetime achievement/trustee awards given out. it seemed that they outnumbered the normal awards. it's definitely gotten pretty confusing with all the unnecessary categories out there.
by the way, thanks for stopping by my blog site. i like what you've got going here.
